News from Jan Carey

“After 4 years as Chair, and 1 year as Co-Chair with Claire Carrie, I am stepping down from this particular role, to make way for the next generation of Trustees, but I have been invited to take on the role of TTG President for the coming year, which I am delighted to accept.

When I became Chair in January 2019, little did I know what a ‘baptism of fire’ it would be – but we got through the pandemic and found that, thanks to the wonderful TTG team, our reputation and standing in the profession had grown out of all recognition.

I originally became a Trustee in 2002, I have so appreciated what TTG has given me through being involved with a different part of the brilliant profession I joined as an actress in 1961.  So, I hope that in return I have been able to give something back too.

The history of the charity has been especially important to me. The Theatrical Ladies Guild established in 1891 was founded and driven by the indomitable actress Kittie Carson, which later became The Theatrical Guild . Our amazing archive was catalogued in 2018 and is available to see online and in-person at The Bristol Theatre Collection.

Since then, TTG has grown from strength-to-strength and reaches out right across the UK. But there is always more to be achieved in order to support the changing needs of those who come to us for help.

I have had an amazing time being part of such an important and vital charity which supports “that great army of unseen workers” as described by the great actress Dame Irene Vanburgh, one of TTGs illustrious past Presidents.

To every one – past and present Ambassadors, Presidents, Trustees, staff and supporters everywhere – thank you all”. With my very best wishes, Jan Carey
