At the ABTT Christmas Party on 5th December 2025, David Staples (Editor of Modern Theatres 1950-2020) awarded an ABTT Fellowship to Robin Townley, who was recognised for his exceptional and wide-ranging contribution to technical theatre. So, “congratulations” from all at TTG.

His distinguished career spans over 30 years with organisations including ENO, Stoll Moss, Theatre Projects, The Junction, DanceEast & Rambert, in roles including ; stage electrician, lighting director, technical director, consultant & lecturer. As a Theatre Consultant, he played a major role in the development of The Junction in Cambridge, the Jerwood DanceHouse in Ipswich, and Rambert’s South Bank home. Robin’s extensive involvement with the ABTT includes Theatre Shows, publications, technical standards, and professional development programmes at all levels, while his leadership ensured the success of multiple ITEAC International Theatre Engineering and Architecture Conferences and the co-production of Modern Theatres 1950–2020. And, most recently, he became a Trustee of The Theatrical Guild, to continue his support of the backstage sector.
